SNC Successfully Demonstrates AE-4500 at RIMPAC 2024

SPARKS, Nev. (November 5, 2024) – SNC successfully demonstrated its AE-4500 Ground-Based ESM System as part of this year’s U.S. Navy RIM of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise. The SNC team provided multiple ground-based systems and two weeks of continuous operational support around the Hawaiian Islands – showcasing the AE-4500’s ability to cooperatively detect, identify and geo-locate signals of interest.

RIMPAC is the world’s largest international maritime exercise. RIMPAC 2024 featured 29 nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft and 25,000 personnel.

SNC completed and exceeded all exercise expectations and parameters. “The SNC team has knocked it out of the park at RIMPAC,” Chief Warrant Officer 5 Brawner stated at the end of the exercise.

The AE-4500 Ground-Based ESM System provided real-time intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) data feeds to a central location on Marine Corps Base Hawaii using electronic support measures (ESM) processing techniques, leveraging parametric deinterleaving just as it did for the RIMPAC 2022 exercise. This year, the AE-4500 system provided a coordinated ground-based collection from multiple locations, connected via beyond-line-of-sight (BLOS) terminals.

SNC’s ground-based ESM system is a variant of its airborne version, which has been deployed around the world on multiple aircraft. The AE-4500 system’s small size, low power and modular design make it ideal for use as passive, unattended ground sensors along coasts or borders, perhaps powered by a battery and solar arrays. Using the transit case with a tripod mounted antenna, the system is man portable and can be set up for operations by a team of two. The ground-based system featuring precision DF, weighs less than 40 pounds and only consumes 272 watts of power. SNC manages the AE-4500 systems product line from its company headquarters in Sparks, Nevada.
