SNC Significantly Advances Vindlér™ RF Satellite Constellation

HERNDON, Va. (Aug. 5, 2024) – SNC continues to advance its Vindlér commercial radio frequency (RF) technology, announcing a new partnership with Muon Space to develop and deliver three additional satellites to SNC’s constellation. Vindlér satellites detect and geo-locate certain objects based on targeted RF emissions, delivering industry-leading RF collection and analytics functionality. Muon Space is an end-to-end space systems provider that designs, builds and operates mission-tailored, low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellations.

“SNC teamed up with Muon Space for an advanced satellite capability and end-to-end mission solution,” said Tim Owings, executive vice president of SNC’s MST business area. “Muon's scalable design, instrument development and operations support, coupled with SNC’s RF technology, diverse data sets and analytic capabilities, will bring to life a new level of commercial possibilities starting in 2025.”
Vindlér is a commercial data source used to locate emitters of interest based on targeted RF emissions ranging from VHF to L-band. SNC’s first constellation launched in 2023. Currently operational and on-orbit, this state-of-the art constellation brings the most accurate RF geolocations to the commercial market, addressing many of today’s pressing challenges. It can be used to track dark vessels, GPS jammers and more in support of national security efforts.

Currently, each of the three Vindlér 1.0 satellites downlinks up to 4GB of data per day and geolocates emitters to within one kilometer. The Vindlér 2.0 satellites developed by Muon bring the constellation total to seven, significantly enhancing the duty cycle and ability to simultaneously collect multiple signals of interest over an unprecedented range of the RF spectrum. This also increases total downlink volumes to a potential of 1.5TB per day which opens the opportunity for future advancements by integrating AI directly into the processing chain. Vindlér will transform current commercial possibilities and support an expanding array of mission sets.

“Having an established industry leader like SNC select Muon Space for this mission really underscores our competitive edge,” said Greg Smirin, president of Muon Space. “Our end-to-end solution offers a significant advantage, providing SNC with a seamless and integrated approach from design to deployment and operations. This partnership validates our commitment to delivering comprehensive, cutting-edge constellation performance that stands out in an extremely competitive market.”
The first Muon satellite block is slated for launch in 2025. Over the next several years, SNC plans to grow the constellation to more than 20 satellites, all of which will collect additional RF bands and offer intraday revisits.
